New Friends!

This week-end we had the opportunity to make friends with a couple in our ward! Isn't it funny how you can be in the same ward with someone for a while and not really get to know them? I've been visiting teaching my friend Rachael for a while now and we've become good friends. We are going to carpool for preschool next year and we've started hanging out. A couple of weeks ago my friend Leasa invited me to a "Girl's Night" with Rachael so that we could get to know a new sister in our ward, Debbie. She is so great! We all had so much fun!

Anyway, Rachael and I decided to go to the park with the kids last week and we really had a blast just talking and relaxing. When the Primary Pres. suggested that we meet with Rachael and her hubby to talk about Glenn's new calling, I jumped at the chance to go out to dinner as couples. Both of our husband's are on the shy side when it comes to making new friends, but it turned out that they had both been wanting to get to know each other! We went out last night to dinner and a movie and had such a great time that we went out for dessert too! Of course we talked about primary but mainly it felt good to make new friends! I can't wait for our Game Night!

Pool Romance!

I am still sleep deprived, although Charles was so proud of himself this morning when he slept until 6:08am. I am still consumed with the Twilight series! I finished Twilight on Monday night. On Tuesday I bought New Moon and finished that last night. I was so glad that Glenn wanted me to buy him more deodorant today because it gave me an excuse to buy Eclipse! Now I'm having a hard time deciding whether to slow down on the reading of this book or not because the next book doesn't come out until August 2nd. I'm doomed!

Something interesting happened last night! My niece (actually my 1st cousin once-removed) Lauren invited us over to go swimming at my grandma's house. There's a huge pool in her complex and a baby pool. When we got there, there was only one couple in the pool. They were in the deep end and making-out big time. The kids are little enough that I hoped they wouldn't notice. So, we proceeded to get ready to get in, when Glenn and I look over and they are totally doing "IT". I was kind of shocked and really irritated! I stalled, thinking that surely they'd stop seeing that we were getting in the pool, but they wouldn't stop! So, when we got in the water I called out, "Umm, there's kids in here now." They looked up and got out and went in the bathroom for a while. When they came out they went in the jacuzzi to do "IT". Thankfully my kids were so excited about swimming that they had no clue what was going on.

Self-Induced Sleep Deprivation!

I am starting to suffer from self-induced sleep deprivation! I have recently started reading again. At the beginning of the year I had wanted to start reading some of the classics- Jane Austen to be exact. While I love her stories, I've had a hard time getting into her books in the limited amount of time I have to actually read. So, last month I decided to just pick up a new book at Target. I wanted one that was an easy read but also interesting so I picked up The DaVinci Code. I'd never read it before and it captivated me and catipulted me into the reading world full-force! Since then I've picked up books that look interesting whenever I go to Target.

Well, my last visit to Target I found the Stephanie Meyers series and purchased Twilight in paperback. So many people have gushed about her books and I knew I had to read them! I have been captured by a book again! I don't want to put it down! I can't wait for the kids to go to bed so I can have uninterrupted reading time.

But, alas, this is not the only reason I am becoming sleep-deprived. My children are not adjusting to the Summer hours very well. They don't fall asleep until about 9pm. That doesn't seem horrible... until I tell you that Charles' new wake-up time has been 5:30am- no joking. While he's usually good enough try to be quiet, Maryn has only been sleeping until 6:40am at the latest! She immediately needs to eat breakfast, or asks for a treat, or tells me she's going potty so it's absolutely pointless to try to stay in bed.

I'm thinking seriously about getting dark curtains for their room.

Genius Children?

I wanted to share a couple of things that my kids have said recently that had me wondering, "Could they be geniuses?":

Charles was admiring his guinea pig when he said, "Mom, I think he's going to be living the rest of his life."

While we were in the car, Maryn made up a new game!:
Maryn: "Charles, let's play the Color Game!"
Charles: "OK"
Maryn: "What color is red?"
Charles: "Red."
Maryn: "You're right!"
"What color is purple?"
Charles (with a chuckle): "Purple."
Maryn: "Good job, Charles!"
(And the game continued on...)

It's times like these that can really get a mother excited about her children's future!

Last Day of Preschool!!

Hurray! The last day of preschool is done! Maryn was so excited to go to her Picnic Party today! She looked so cute carrying her little lunch. They went out to the baseball field and played games and ate. It's been such a great year with all her friends. I posted pictures of her with Miss Ada, Becca, Monique and Bella.

Baseball is Over!!

I just wanted to post a few pictures of Charles' closing day for baseball. We had an awards ceremony and BBQ with the team. I love the baseball season but I'm always glad when it's finally over! He did well this year but I'm not sure that this is the sport for him. His favorite thing to do is bat, but most of the time is spent standing around. He gets bored. So, this might be his last season. In the fall we'll research karate classes or soccer. If we have the funds I'd prefer the karate because all of the parents I've talked to say that soccer is very demanding with all of the practices.

Anyway, tomorrow is Maryn's last day of preschool! Yeah! That's something else that's been wonderful for her but a headache for me! (I sound so aweful here! I guess I need the summer break too!) Of course, all the moms that read this probably understand.

Birthday Fun!

Last night was so much fun! For the past couple of years, my friends Ronda and Leasa and I have celebrated our birthdays together! It's been so much fun! Last night I picked them up and we went to Bucca di Beppo's for dinner. Everything was so delicious! We had chicken alfredo, risotto mozzerella balls, antipasto salad, lemon chicken with artichoke hearts, and split cheesecake for dessert! We were all so stuffed!

The waiter was really nice and brought out a candelabra with three lit candles for us! He took pictures of us blowing out the candles with Ronda's camera. When she sends them, I'll post them.

We all exchanged gifts at the restaraunt. Ronda wrote both of us personalized poems about our friendship. My poem was so special and I'll cherish it forever. Then Leasa gave us certificates for reflexology massages! Woo- Hoo! We'll have another girl's night!! It's so wonderful to have good friends to share special times and make great memories with.

After our wonderful dinner, Leasa invited us to go back to her house and go in her jacuzzi. We had so much fun just hanging out and talking together. I had the best time! Thanks my friends!

Who Hires These People?

I ran to Food-4-Less this afternoon to pick up a few groceries. It's always a hassle to go there but the prices are pretty good. I usually get a grumpy check-out clerk that always seems to wish they were somewhere else and doesn't talk to me. Well today I got into line and found the cashier to be very friendly! She was young and smiled a lot. Within 45 seconds I new that she had a boyfriend with a son and a sister that she always has to discipline. Anyway, I ran my debit card and went to the end of the conveyer belt to start bagging my groceries while she continued to ring me up. She stopped and held up my bag of apricots and asked me what they were! I looked at her for a second and then told her that they were apricots. She then began to rant about how every time she asks a customer what an item is, they always look at her with a wierd look on their faces and never answer her. She thinks that customers are so dumb because they don't even know what they're buying!! As humorous as this all was, she then told me my total and I okayed it so she put the transaction through. While my card was processing, she starts saying (in front of everyone), "Okay, let's see if it clears- yep, it looks like it's gonna go through- Yep, it cleared, you're good to go!" I was so embarassed! I started wondering, do I look like the kind of person who might not be able to pay? Or, does it happen so often in that store that people can't pay? Or, is she completely devoid of any tact? .....Maybe she's ticky-tacky!
