Memorial Day 2010

Today was a beautiful day! Maryn was able to participate in a Memorial Day program at the Westminster Memorial Park. The Girl Scouts were invited to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. It was her first official Girl Scout thing and she was so excited!

The program was so wonderful. I loved it! The Westminster HS band played, we had a congressman speak, and there was a wreath presentation where different groups presented memorial wreaths. They were beautiful. There was even a wreath presented by 2 survivors of Pearl Harbor.
I was really moved by the music, the flowers and, of course, all of the veterans that attended. Maryn was so excited to see all of the flags on the soldier's graves, even though she said it was sad that they died. She wanted to take pictures by every gravestone. It was a special day and I am so grateful we attended. I want to go every year now!

Our family goes every year. It is always a special event and a reminder. We take the time to visit graves of family members and clean them up and leave flowers.
